THE CONCEPT WAS FIRST VISUALIZED IN 1875, BUT NO ROD WAS EVER PRODUCED. JEFF HATTON, A BAMBOO ROD MAKER AND OWNER OF GNOMISH ROD WORKS, WITH OVER 12 YEARS OF BAMBOO ROD BUILDING EXPERIENCE AND OVER 30 YEARS OF RESTORATION AND REBUILDING OF BAMBOO RODS DECIDED TO SEE IF HE COULD MAKE IT WORK. JEFF SPENT 2 YEARS OF HIS TIME TO DEVELOP PROTOTYPES THAT PROVED IT WAS NOT ONLY POSSIBLE BUT RESULTED IN A ROD THAT HAS AMAZED EVERYONE THAT EVER CAST IT. THE FINAL RESULT IS THE BRAIDED CREEK ROD WHICH IS DESIGNED TO CAST A 1/2 OR 3/4 WEIGHT LINE WITH ACCURACY AND DISTANCE UP TO 30 FEET WITHOUT A HAUL. ALL THE BAMBOO IS HAND SELECTED AND COMES FROM THE BANKS OF THE SUI RIVER IN CHINA. MANUFACTURING IS PERFORMED IN HOUSE EXCEPT FOR THE HANDLES AND REEL SEATS. THESE ARE TURNED BY A GOOD FRIEND AND MASTER WOOD TURNER KEITH KOLASH. THE BAMBOO IS SPLIT, HARDENED AND TAPERED WITH THE HIGHEST LEVELS OF QUALITY CONTROL WHICH IS OUR #1 GOAL. THE STRIPS ARE THEN IMPREGNATED FOR STRENGTH, WATER PROOF AND DURABILITY. THE GRIP AND REEL SEAT ARE 2 PIECES IN ORDER TO OFFER YOU A MIX OF DIFFERENT WOODS.
THE FINAL FINISH INCLUDES A HAND RUBBED PASTE WAX FOR BEAUTY, PROTECTION AND MOVEMENT OF THE BRAIDS.
THE 4 STRIPS ARE HAND BRAIDED IN A SUCH A WAY THAT PRODUCES BOTH POWER AND STRENGTH. THE BRAIDING ALSO CREATES AN UNEVEN LOOKING ROD AS YOU CAN SEE IN THE FIRST PHOTO. IT DOESN’T HAVE TO BE STRAIGHT. THE MAGIC IS THAT ONCE YOU START CASTING, YOUR LINE TRAVELS STRAIGHT AS AN ARROW. THIS IS DUE TO THE CHAOS THEORY. ONCE THE BAMBOO IS BRAIDED THE POWER FIBERS WITHIN THE BAMBOO ARE WORKING IN AND OUT FROM ALL SIDES AT THE SAME TIME THUS CREATING TOTAL CHAOS YET THE POWER IS FOCUSED INTO ONE LINEAR DIRECTION.
THE BAMBOO STRIPS START AT THE BASE OF THE HAND GRIP, ARE INLAID INTO THE GRIP AND END AT THE TIP TOP FOR A SEAMLESS CONNECTION.

I saw you at the Denver show, I’m from Bighorn River Lodge, which is right on the Bighorn river.
When I first came by your booth I noticed the woven braided rod you were showing someone, and I had to stop to see what this crazy looking fly-rod was all about. After talking to you about the rod, which I found interesting, you then let me cast the little bamboo rod.
I couldn’t believe how much power the rod had, and how easy it was to cast. When the casting pool was open we stepped over to cast on the water, and again I was blown away by how well, and easy the rod roll cast. I look forward to fishing one of your rods on the Bighorn to mayfly sipping trout.
To end…the wow factor for me was first the design of rod, that’s what caught my eye at first. Then how well the rod cast was the biggest selling point for me, and I cast a lot of rods over a given year, and like to think I know a good rod when I cast one. I think if I can get a Braided rod in my boat, I’ll be able to sell the Braided rod to clients who come fish with me.
