A BAMBOO ROD IS NOT JUST A FISHING TOOL BUT A USABLE PIECE OF ART
Jeff Hatton is the owner of Gnomish Rod Works and the instructor of the school.
“I’m not afraid to take the best of the past and the best of the present and combine the two, without being bound by the constraints of tradition. I’m looking to build bamboo rods that have the look of the 1800’s and hold their own against the best graphite’s of today.” Jeff Hatton:

Testimonies
“I always liked this one from Wayne Cattanach: (“The bamboo fly rod represents the pinnacle of the fly fishing art, its apparent simplicity and delicacy belies the craftsmanship that are hallmarks of all great rods”). I might add – if the bamboo fly rod is the (“pinnacle of the fly fishing art”) then Mr. Gnome’s creations may just be the pinnacle of the bamboo fly rod!”
Bob Armchair Angler
“A work of art. Just stunning. Jeff’s mortise work is just incredible.”

“The inlay on Gnomes latest work is quite detailed. The butt cap has inlays of turquoise dancing fish that mirror those on the rod case. The butt cap also screws in and out to accommodate various size reels. The bronze reel seat hardware is also inscribed. Best of all it has a faster more powerful action which is what I asked for. The rod is nicely balanced and feels very light considering the weight of the mortised grip, this is very intriguing and I look forward to fishing the Fox Family rod. Aesthetics is a bonus, but at the end of the day I want a rod that has the action that I requested in my order with the rod maker. The Gnome accomplished both on this/ my rod. So in my opinion after living with this beauty for a week is that the rod is a wonderful combination of contemporary innovation & traditional design. Kudos to the Gnome. Thanks Jeff.”
